Dr. Abdul Gafur M. is the founding Principal of KMCT Institute of Emerging Technology and Management (KMCT-IETM), Manassery, Mukkam, affiliated with APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU), Thiruvananthapuram. With a distinguished academic and administrative career spanning over two decades, he brings extensive national and international experience to his leadership role. Before taking charge at KMCT-IETM, Dr. Gafur served as the Principal of Ilahia College of Engineering and Technology, Muvattupuzha. He began his academic career in 2001 as a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at MES College of Engineering, Kuttippuram, then affiliated with the University of Calicut. He later joined Sambhram Institute of Technology, Bangalore, affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), where he held the position of Head of the Department in Information Science and Engineering. In 2008, he accepted a faculty position at the University of Tabuk, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where he served for nine years. On his return to India, he assumed the role of Dean (Research) and Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at MEA Engineering College, Perinthalmanna. A committed educator, Dr. Gafur has been recognized three times as the Best Faculty for achieving 100% pass results in end-semester university examinations conducted by KTU and VTU for undergraduate engineering cohorts.
He holds a B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from Kannur University, an M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from the National Institute of Technology Calicut, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad. He has also successfully completed the Education Leadership Programme from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM Calcutta), further strengthening his capabilities in academic leadership and institutional management
He is a recognized research supervisor and has served as a member and convener on various doctoral committees across multiple universities. Under his guidance, research scholars from APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Kerala University of Health Sciences, Bharathidasan University, and Manipal Academy of Higher Education have completed or are currently pursuing their doctoral studies. He has authored several technical papers published in SCI- and Scopus-indexed journals, as well as in technical magazines. His research has been cited in European patents, underscoring its global relevance. He is also the author of the book “AI in Healthcare: Empowering Doctors and Administrators”, which reflects his expertise in applying Artificial Intelligence to the healthcare sector. He has delivered numerous keynote addresses on various occasions and has received several distinguished honours throughout his career.
He has wide experience in National Board of Accreditation (NBA) as well as in the US-based ABET accreditation process. Under his leadership and guidance at Ilahia College of Engineering and Technology two B.Tech programs viz. Computer Science & Engineering and Civil Engineering received the NBA accreditation during the academic year 2021-22. He played a pivotal role in the accreditation committee for the NBA process at MEA Engineering College, and under his leadership, the B.Tech programs in the CSE and ME departments were successfully granted NBA accreditation. He was instrumental for the first time NBA accreditation at MES College of Engineering Kuttipuram by leading the accreditation work for the B.Tech CSE programme in 2004. He was actively involved in the prestigious ABET accreditation process at the University of Tabuk, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia—an internationally recognized U.S.-based accreditation body for college and university programs in engineering and technology. He also served as an integral member of the Quality Control and Assurance Committees at various institutions both in India and abroad. Additionally, he was a member of the Committee for Community Welfare for Indian Expatriates under the Indian Consulate in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Dr. Abdul Gafur is a fellow of Institution of Engineers (India),and Life member of Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE).
